summer break

issue no. 2 is underway

Hi, there. Haley and Missy of HUMANxNATURE here.

July was a quiet month—at least over here on our newsletter. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working with the wonderful writers who pitched us for our second print issue as well as for this digital space. In short, we were blown away by the sheer volume of brilliant, vital ideas you sent our way, and we can’t wait to keep working with them.

Good stuff is in the works. We’ll be back with more soon!

call for pitches + an award

Haley and Missy of HUMANxNATURE here.

We’ve got good news! Our first print issue was honored by this year’s New England Book Show! We took home second place in the illustrated, self-published category.

And we’re now accepting pitches for our second print issue—and we pay! We’re looking for thoughtful, off-beat nature writing (nonfiction only). We’re open to creative, reported, researched, or any mix thereof.

Here are some topics we’re interested in (but certainly not limited to)—

  • plant and animal feelings, yours and/or theirs

  • outdoor activities of all kinds (birding, camping, gardening, foraging, lazing, hiking, etc.)

  • critical essays on formative/canonical nature writing

  • climate change, climate destruction, climate cataclysm

  • the ugly and unbecoming bits of the natural world

Read our full call-for-pitches here.

And send those pitches to by May 31!
